MAWLL Sponsors Biggest Division II Tournament

GIBSONVILLE, NC – The tournament heard around the states began with a University of Denver standout and longtime Rocky Mountain Women’s Lacrosse League (RMWLL) Executive Member, Mindy Stone and a former Head Coach at the University of Wyoming and current President of the Mid Atlantic Women’s Lacrosse League and RMWLL, David Pomeroy. Together Mindy Stone and David Pomeroy have both respectively been a part of successful Division II programs and collectively decided there is a way to bring together Division II teams from around the country to play in one location during the season, outside of the National Tournament. The Co-Chairs, Ms. Stone and Mr. Pomeroy, decided to name the tournament the Pomerstone Classic which is sponsored by STX and TST Media.

Registration has been opened to enter this tournament since early July and as of 9:00pm EST on November 20, 2011 the Pomerstone Classic has only one spot available for the first ever WCLA Division II only tournament of this magnitude, other than the National Tournament. The tournament will include a total of 12 teams, which consists of: 6 out of the 8 teams that competed in the 2011 National Tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona, according to Laxpower Computer Ratings, 9 of the top 12 teams will in attendance and within the 12 teams they will represent 10 different states.

Mindy Stone and David Pomeroy would like to congratulate the following teams in being a part of this inaugural event:

1.       Fordham University

2.       James Madison University

3.       Loyola University

4.       Oakland University

5.       Southern Methodist University

6.       Towson University

7.       University of Minnesota-Duluth

8.       University of North Carolina

9.       University of Wisconsin-River Falls

10.   Western Washington University

11.   Westminster College

We hope this continues to grow as an annual event as Ms. Stone and Mr. Pomeroy are looking for universities who would be willing to host in 2013.

Thank you.
